How then shall we respond….Full of Grace and Truth

LGBTQ Community

We were pleased to have Dr. Alan Robinson, The National Director of the Brethren in Christ, speak at our annual conference on ministry to the with same-sex attraction and lifestyle. As I mentioned in my introduction of Dr. Robinson, I attended a one-day seminar presented by Dr. Robinson and others that addressed this very issue from a grace and truth perspective. Dr. Robinson has agreed to allow me to share the BIC information that was included with that workshop. Please note the following:

The materials include positions on this issue with which you may differ. I feel that you are better served to hear the position of those who are in support of same-sex marriage. This material is from the Brethren in Christ and used with their permission. The point of the exhaustive reading is to spark conversation. I would highly encourage you to consider the glossary which should be included as well as the scenarios. I would encourage pastors and leadership to work through the scenarios to determine how you would respond with grace and truth. I would also encourage you, particularly if you work with young people to watch the 45 minute video entitled "Through My Eyes" which is available free on www.gaychristian.net. I am not endorsing the message of the video but I think you will better understand the complexity of the issue.

This fall we are hoping that we can have Dr. Robinson, or others, continue the dialogue that began at Conference. It is our desire that we can be compelled by the love of Christ to minister with grace and truth to the LGBTQ community.

Yours and HIS!

The Nehemiah Project

Do you ever feel like you are just winging? Are you seeking a direction for the ministry you lead? Do you feel like there are so many opportunities, but you don’t know in which ones you should participate? You know you are to make disciples, but how do we do that in today’s hectic fractured world? It’s a different world out there, but what can you do about it?

The Nehemiah Project was formed to help you wrestle through such questions as these and many others.

What is the Nehemiah Project? It’s a nine session journey developed by the Renewal Commission to guide churches into a renewal process. We sought input from 25 pastors. From their input we developed these nine sessions to address the top topics they requested help in overcoming.

Check out the brochure for more information.

Pastors’ Wives Care Team Ministry

It was back in February, 2015 when Pastor Charlie Steinmann mailed a letter to all pastor’s wives stating that he knew “of the stress and pain that pastors and wives experience while serving in ministry.” At that time he was interested in publishing a list of pastors’ wives who would be willing to talk and listen to those who were going through a tough season of life/ministry.

In March of 2015 he had been contacted by several pastors’ wives that were willing to be a part of this ministry. Charlie had vision for this ministry that he shared with those who had notified him, and was planning to meet at the Eastern Regional Conference that year. Charlie was called to his eternal home before conference and was not able to complete the vision he had for this ministry. He received a much greater reward!

Click here to continue the article and find a list of the Care Ministry Team. Please feel free to call any one of them when you feel alone, when the enemy strikes relationships in your own family or the church family, when your marriage (yes, the relationship with the pastor) is struggling, health concerns or any other time you just need someone to care and pray with you. This Team has a heart to serve and encourage. — Elaine Good and Jean Koontz
